Simmellians are the forerunners in robotic & computer sciences, engineering, bionics, interstellar travel, ecological awareness & environmental control, chemistry & biochemistry, gravity flux, physics, genetics, astronomy, and medicine. Simmellians were first to develop single-generation interstellar vehicles, although their lifespan must be noted as a forerunner to this achievement. Racial prohibition against the creation of sentient robots is willingly and strictly adhered as the history of the Sentients’ War cannot be forgotten by such a group mind race.

Racial motivation is curiosity and desire to learn in an analytical bent. Early scouting was not in search of colonies. This sometimes evoked a worship of the Simmellians as guardians or Kreators; the Simmellians never took advantage of those notions. When interracial contact became troublesome and tedious, Simmellians began exploring other worlds in secret. Their marginal presence often alarmed the more primitive societies they studied; this often had dramatic and negative influence and effect on contact efforts of races that later explored or contacted the same world.

As part of the communal society fostered by their racial telepathy, Simmellians have no concept of marriage and little concept of privacy. Even Simmellians in longterm relationships frequently take other lovers of both genders without jealousy from the previous or concurrent. This bisexuality is a natural extension of their worldwide love that is encompassed by the Simmellian Simbiosis. Simmellian women, however, seldom bear children to more than one male, a factor that contributes to the slow reproduction rate.

Landscape is of wide planes, calm oceans and spired, controlled-vegetation cities. There are no oceans, but Simmel is marked with sea-sized bodies of water, the largest of which is the Gradoal Oshan. ‘Doal" means "sea" in Simmellian (R-107). Surface is 44% vegetation, 41% water, and only 15% developed as urban centers

Circa 62100, suns are 4 median yellows, 1 brown dwarf, 1 average green star and 2 big baby blues. Described from space as "a blue and brown marble, with a light covering of streaming white clouds in an otherwise transparent atmosphere" in the Renegades 88.

Simmel is entrenched with underground tunnels built during and after the sixth Blaakos-Simmel War in precaution against alien occupation. These are source of Simmellian childhood legends and bogeymen.

During Kajerist occupation, a Blakkarrion always served as imperial governor (Rise 53). This post was filled by Mather upon Simmel’s liberation; Mather detonated Blakkarrion structures rather than see the Simmellians make use of them.

Simmel is described as "the galaxy’s pinnacle and progenitor" in "Veritable Vegetable Victory"
